How I Learned Wellness Isn’t About Having It All Together, but a lifelong journey and discovery
By Wisdom, MSc Food Science
The Day I Broke Down in the Grocery Store
It was a Tuesday in November. Grey sky. That particular Finnish darkness that settles in your bones around 3 PM. I was standing in the Valio aisle at K-Citymarket, holding two cartons of milk, crying.
Not softly. Not the dignified tears you wipe away quickly. I mean full-body sobbing while my two-year-old tugged at my clothes and my five-year-old asked, “Mama, why are you sad?”
I couldn’t answer him. Because how do you explain to a child that his mother is tired in a way that sleep doesn’t fix? That she’s surrounded by abundance, but she could not see it, and she still feels like she’s drowning?
That day, I put the milk down, gathered my children, and went home. I didn’t make dinner. We ate crackers and yoghurt. And I sat on my bathroom floor after they fell asleep, wondering: “How did I get here? And why does surviving feel so much like failing?”
The Journey That Brought Me Here
I’m Nigerian. Yorùbá. Born in Lagos—a city that teaches you to fight, to hustle, to never back down. I learned early: if you want something, you work for it. If you fall, you get up. If life is hard, you work harder.
Then I moved to Finland.
The country that consistently ranks as the “happiest in the world” and one of the safest too, but I soon discovered something nobody tells you: safety doesn’t automatically bring peace.
And I was losing myself.
The Health Crisis Nobody Saw Coming
Already in my 30s, I had more white hair than black. My fatigue wasn’t the “I stayed up late with the kids” kind. It was the “I slept 4 hours and I need more sleep, but I can’t” kind. My lower back ached constantly. I got winded climbing stairs.
I went to the doctor. Blood tests came back: “Early Stages of Anemia.”
But I’m a food scientist. I have an MSc in food science. I know what foods to eat and how to get better, so why am I not?
Honestly, I was just tired. And stressed and constantly caring for others while neglecting myself. Coupled with navigating changing family dynamics. But I soon learned that you can’t pour from an empty cup. You need to serve yourself before you can serve others. So, I got to work.
The Intersection of Faith, Science, and Survival
Here’s what I’ve learned in the trenches of immigrant motherhood:
Faith without science is incomplete. Science without faith is cold. But together? They’re medicine.
When I’m too exhausted to function, I don’t just pray for energy (though I do that too). I check my iron levels. I eat liver and leafy greens. I supplement strategically. I track my symptoms. I advocate for myself with doctors—because if I don’t do it, no one else will.
When I felt the weight of everything that kept me stressed, stuck, and unmotivated, I prayed for guidance from God and then started to read extensively. Born naturally curious, I started to wonder about the purpose of life. Is this all there is, or is there more? What are the thoughts of the greatest thinkers who have gone? How do they see life, and how does that intertwine with modern science and our present reality? I read so much in my free time, and it has actually led me to share my journey via this blog.
Why I Started Daily Wellness with Wisdom
This blog isn’t born from having answers. It’s born from asking better questions and also consistently learning more while sharing my journey with you all.

Questions like:
- What does wellness look like when you are actually aware and intentional about everything you do, i.e., what you eat, wear, watch, etc.?
- How do you honor traditional food wisdom while respecting modern nutrition science?
- What is the link between timeless lessons, clarity of purpose, and emotional wellness?
- What does “self-care” mean when you’re in the margins of your exhaustion?
I’m not a guru. I’m not a lifestyle influencer with a curated feed and a team of editors. I’m a mother who is curious, seeking and building an identity that truly reflects what is in her heart and her desires. Who loves to share what works and serve others through lived experiences.
What You’ll Find Here
On this blog, I share:
Science-backed nutrition that respects your mind, body, and soul in the food as medicine category.
Emotional wellness practices rooted in faith with scientific evidence
Timeless lessons and clarity of purpose for the mind seeking answers to questions that people don’t often ask.
A Note on Medical Advice
I write from lived experience, reflection, and a deep respect for emotional awareness and intentional living. I have an MSc in Food Science—but I am not your doctor, not your nutritionist (though working on getting certified), not your dietitian, and not your therapist.
My work is meant to offer a gentle perspective—not answers, diagnoses, or instructions. Always consult your healthcare provider before making changes to your health routine.
If You Take Nothing Else…
Take this: You are not behind. You are not broken. You are becoming.

The fatigue you feel? It’s valid. The overwhelm? Real. The longing for something softer, slower, more meaningful? That’s not a weakness. That’s wisdom calling you home.
I’m still learning this. Some days I forget. Some days I still feel the overwhelm. But I’m learning.
And if my journey can be a lantern—even a dim one—for yours? Then every tear, every late night, every moment of doubt was worth it.
